Dear Brother,

A sense of peace and well being

overwhelm me when I think of you,

And makes me smile, once again,

the way you used to do.

The heavy sadness in my heart

is lightened, and my tears all cease.

For I know you're in a better place;

A paradise of perfect peace.

You are free from the pain and tears

that filled your earthly days.

You walk with God by your side,

and rejoice in heavenly ways.

Not even time can erase

the memories of days gone by.

Because deep within my heart,

your memory will remain alive.

Loving thoughts soothe my heart,

I miss you, you were my friend.

And I will always love you,

God be with you, 'til we meet again.

With Love

Your loving sisters

Don would spend hours in his room playing his guitar and singing the songs he made up as he went along. Often he made recordings of these "sessions".

Don was a very trusting and loving soul. No matter how many times those he chose to call his "friend" betrayed him, he refused to see the dark side of their nature, and was always forgiving. All he ever wanted out of life was to love and be loved in return.

I was seven when Don was born, and even at that young age, I instintively knew that he was one of God's special children. Oh how I tried to guide and protect him from harm. Too soon I learned that God has His plan and that there is nothing mortal man can do to alter the course He has laid out for each and every one of our lives.

After learning of his illness, Don wrote a poem. I titled it 'Donald's Song'. I know he would have wanted it shared with those who knew and loved him.

In 2001, I submitted 'Donald's Song' to Poetry.com and it will appear in 'The Best Poems and Poets of 2002' I can just hear him say: "YOU did this for ME? Really? Thanks Glory!"

to the circus
Little child you are born!
You are free to travel,
You are free to rome.

Come along, sing a song,
Bring a friend or two.
Come along, sing a song.
But don't be anyone's fool.

There are rules in the Circus
That you must protect.
There are rules in the Circus,
If you brake them you'll regret.

If you brake a rule in the Circus,
It's not an instant death.
Even though your days are numbered,
You'll go on 'til your last breath.

Farewell to the circus,
Little child how are you?
Did you live long and prosper,
Or did you brake all the rules?

Don often turned to his Bible for comfort and direction. He highlighted the passage that held a special meaning to him. I aranged the passages to form a prayer. 'Donald's Prayer' makes a lovley tribute to Don and all he believed in.

I will always regret not being able to be with Don during his final moments, but God, in his mysterious wisdom, allowed me to be with him in spirit. At the exact moment Don drew in his last breath, I too, so many miles away, drew in an involuntay breath that totally over whelmed me with a tremendous sence of peace and well being. I knew, without having to be told, that Don was gone from this earth.

As I gazed up at the evening sky, one single star appeared. As I watched it take the shape of a cross, I was comforted by this heavenly message and knew deep within my soul that Don was finely at peace and was home. Praise God, he was home!

When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye.
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you.
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way,
There's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.

But you have been forgiven,
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?"

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
